Weekend in the lab

Last weekend I have followed my wife to her lab. She has got an experiment to take care of. As I always said, we are still working and need to work eventhough it is weekend. The question is do we (I regards us as a scientist) enjoy? Some people may not but I think we love to do it and we do understand about each other works. Sometimes, she came back late from her lab (I am quite worried btw) but I know that she had to finish her jobs . Well, at the moment, I am still studying the literature so I'm off early from the lab. Lucky me then!!

In the paper

Well, coincidently the next day after my picture was in the paper, my wife also appeared in the paper for her 'Salam Perantauan'. Destiny...

2 + 4 = molecular

As a traditional plant pathologist, I have never been involved in the world of molecular biology. Perhaps, I can consider it as an empty space in my works. At some points, I thought that it is hard to become a molecular biologist as of course because I don’t like to work in the lab all the time (not interested!) and it is because they work in small details which is I think sometimes it is not relevant.

Nevertheless, I take it as a challenge and I have promise to myself that when I further my study, I have to do the molecular research. Thus, I have taken the challenge and I am now looking forward to get involved in the molecular biology world. So far, I am still in the dark but I am happy with the new challenge. I hope, I can go back to Malaysia with something new in my head!

By the way, library in Bath open for 24 hours and only closed for Chrismas. They do study hard don’t they?

Rain rain

It's raining all day long.
Currently, I have set up many rules for myself in order to be a little bit more discipline person. Personally, I think I am lack of discipline which sometimes gave me lots of difficulties. For example and almost every time, I wake up late and try to settle things in the evening only to face bad weather and etc. If only I wake up early in the morning and get things done before the rain etc. then things should be easier and could have sail smoothly. However, I always jump into this mess and end up blaming myself for not being a discipline person.
The same goes to my working schedule. I am trying to press hard during the weekdays now as I want to enjoy my weekend. I realized that after all, I am working too much during the weekend back in Malaysia. Therefore, I want to get loose here. I've met a friend today. He opened up a politic discussion with me which was really interesting. He is Pakatan Rakyat supporter (as he said) and he has expressed his dislike towards the government today (corrupted, stupid and bla bla). I realized that when opposition supporter expressed their dislike towards the government, (me in my case) I as a the BN supporter did not show my uneasiness as I as just listened to what he said. But when I express my feeling towards the opposition, they will instantly jump upside down to defend their believe even though it is not right (not to my friend as we really had a cozy discussion). At some points, they'll show their stick and shoot you away. What I mean is 'Do we only have to listen to them or open a real discussion?' There is no breaking point as no pure discussion has been spilled out. When there is no point of solutions, the root of the problems will be dragged from here and cats and dogs will not stop shouting at each other in the Great Parliament Hall.
I surely think politic in Malaysia has reached a level where a new era or approaches are needed to be done. Malaysia's politic needs to be refurbished.

Bath @ Bath

After a long wait with visa and stuffs, I've finally touched my feet in the land of Bath. I have to admit that Bath is exceptionally beautiful. The landscape is so nice with River Avon become the soul of the city. The university campus is about 2 km from my accommodation. Main transportation here is by bus as Bath is a hilly place. There are several tourist attractions here such as Roman Bath and The Royal Crescent plus the icing of the cake which is its view.

I am almost settled down with everything, just a need a bank account as its take 6 bloody working days just to get my address confirmation from the registrar. I’ve met several Malaysians here (which is good) but I am just going to do my things. I am not utterly excited as I am more excited to go to Cambridge and be together with my wife.

At the end of the day, I was given three PhD theses by my supervisors and next week I have to give a presentation to my supervisory committees. The fact that I am just one week old here did not give any advantages to me. I am happy to present as I need to earn my confident first. Though it’ll start hard and tough but I need to start somewhere and this Monday is the perfect day as a starting point to another level in my life.
